USA: Improve Native access to veterinary care

CAMPAIGN ENDED

This important bill passed the Senate but got held up in the House before the 2024 legislative deadline. Thank you to everyone who took action. We will reach out with new opportunities to support lifesaving legislation as they become available!

Ask your congressperson to protect pets and public health with Senate Bill 4365.

Healthy pets make healthy communities! Veterinary care and vaccines are crucial to this equation, but rural communities often have limited access. Native communities in particular are struggling to keep up with the demand for vet services.

In fact, studies show that Native children have the highest rate of dog bite injuries and hospitalizations in the nation, leading to disproportionately high levels of rabies transmission.

New legislation would mitigate this issue, helping both pets and people in the process.

Senate Bill 4365, the Veterinary Services to Improve Public Health in Rural Communities Act, will direct the Indian Health Service (an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) to provide Indian Tribes and Tribal organizations with veterinary services, including spaying and neutering, vaccinations, and more.
